Rumors that a naked, bloodied man seen in a video circulating online was the victim of a violent crime in State College are false, borough police said in a statement on Sunday evening.

The video began appearing on social media Saturday along with the claim that the man had been stabbed at a State College apartment building. Several obscure websites also posted fabricated articles based on the posts, with fictitious quotes, that could be found through Google and Facebook.

State College police did respond early Saturday morning to a call involving the man seen in the video, but no other person was involved in the incident, according to the statement.

“There was no violent crime involved,” police wrote. “There was and is no threat to others related to that incident.”

Because of the nature of the incident, police said no further information would be released.
